In the Soviet Union, sanatoriums were
seen as vacation resorts, or worker paradises. Located primarily in Crimea.
The belt is the red and white army with Ukraine nationalist movement consisting of a red and black flag. Crimeans didn’t have a voice and had to stay within the “lines” of authority being shuffled between the two. Their identity was partially removed and was replaced with Russians. When Ukraine got independence, the world suddenly had Russians in Ukrainian territory.
The world had to solve this identity crisis.
The untouched pattern on the belt (and the Soviet emblem) represents a memory of a past identity. Through indoctrination of an existing identity, you can create a new identity. If you have enough information regarding traditions, culture, symbols, and meaning for it to be deemed “legitimate” by the world.
